I was reading on the internet...

We are a blessed generation, the advances in technology have helped us to be better informed, better able to research things for ourselves, but there is a down side.

Through my work i often have to solve problems for people (ahhh now i sound like i do something exotic like an assassin) and of late i have heard with ever increasing frequency "ah now i read somewhere on the Internet". Let me clarify something Playing a racing game on a PlayStation doesn't make you Lewis Hamilton, watching Top Gun doesn't make you a fighter pilot and reading a medical advice Internet site doesn't make you Dr. Kildair (if you don't know ask your parents they will remember).

All of a sudden we assume we are experts, we look things up on the Internet and bingo who needs six years of medical training, we buy a dummies guide to cooking and all of a sudden in a flash of olive oil and lemon grass we are Jamie Oliver (more on he who is the spawn of the devil later). Now don't get me wrong the Internet is a huge step forward for us, we now have access to some of the upper echelons that would preciously been out of our reach, but professional advice is still and will always be unbeatable.

My wife has a tenancy to do this, bless her, she suffers with an ongoing joint problem, but oh no lets not ask a doctor lets look it up on the Internet. 15 mins later she has diagnosed that she has Rickets and the only answer is amputation. So next time your thinking about fixing that leaking tap call a plumber, next time you have a little play under the bonnet of your car call a mechanic & next time you think you may have SA RS go to the doctor.
